The Steering Committee is the key body within the governance structure which is responsible for the business issues associated with the projects. In project with large vendor involvement, include the vendor in the Steering Committee to establish good governance around the vendor and customer collaboration. Adjust this template to describe such a vendor steering committee for your project.

The committee is appointed at the beginning of the project. They were created to fulfill the project ‘control” feature. They are essential to ensuring the delivery of project outputs and the achieving of project outcomes.
The Steering Committee consists of the Project sponsor, Business owners, representatives for key stakeholders and external, independent representatives. The steering group meets at a regular interval usual monthly with additional meetings called ad hoc if necessary.

Main responsibilities of a Steering Committee are: to formulate a project order, to set an objective, to allocate resources, to delay a project; to release a budget, to release project phases; to support a project manager; to set priorities, to make decisions that are outside of the project managers competence.
