Identifying and continuously monitoring risks in any project is critical for project success. From my experience, risk management along with stakeholder management are the two most essential aspects of project management – anything else is secondary. The risk log document is where you keep track of all project risks and it must be reviewed and updated on regular basis. PMI defines project risk as an uncertain event or condition that, if it occurs, has a positive or negative effect on a project’s objectives. Risk management is all about proactivity, which allows the project team to work on value added work instead of firefighting repairs and failures that could have been prevented. It all starts with identifying risk and continuously monitoring these in a risk log document.
